Under the Etruscan Sky: the final “Storie in Cammino” hike takes place on Saturday, May 2

Sixth and final trekking event in the local area as part of the PNRR Città Ideale Vegetale project

“Stories on the move”, the trekking programme dedicated to discovering the local area through experiential workshops and stories of taste, promoted by the Municipality of San Lorenzo Nuovo as part of the PNRR Ideal Vegetal Town project, comes to an end under the sign of the Etruscans.

The initiative is curated by Associazione Culturale Comunità Narranti and Four Seasons Natura e Cultura, in collaboration with Consorzio Camminatori Indipendenti, and offers the opportunity to discover this area of Alta Tuscia from unusual perspectives, through landscape, memory and flavours.

The sixth and final event will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. with the hike “Under the Etruscan Sky. In the footsteps of ancient settlements and necropolises in the Val di Lago”, a circular route exploring some of the most significant Etruscan remains in the area, among ancient settlements and burial sites, silent guardians of a millennia-old presence immersed in the Tuscia landscape.

The hiking programme

The walk will offer the chance to reach the Tomb of the Column of Torano, the monumental necropolis of Le Sane and the vast plateau of the Civita, a privileged viewpoint overlooking Lake Bolsena and the site of the most important Etruscan settlement in the area, whose original name is still unknown. Continuing along the route, the trail will lead towards Vallemuglie, where further traces of Etruscan presence are preserved, including chamber tombs and signs of a long historical stratification. Here, the narrative will intertwine with later events in the territory, linked to the conflict between the Lombards and local communities, who were forced to take refuge in safer places such as San Lorenzo Vecchio.

The meeting point for departure is the Church of Madonna di Torano, in Via Torano, San Lorenzo Nuovo. The hike is 4 km long, with an elevation gain of 130 metres, an estimated duration of 4 hours and an easy difficulty level, with one technical passage. Suitable seasonal trekking clothing and a packed lunch are recommended.

Workshop and final tasting

In the afternoon, at 3:00 p.m., the workshop “The Biscotto di Sant’Antonio” will be held by Antonella Pelosi, a workshop filled with the scent of memories and tradition. Participants will be guided on a journey through old family recipes and gestures handed down from generation to generation, discovering the Biscotto di Sant’Antonio, a sweet symbol of the community. Among doughs, stories and aromas from another time, an experience will take shape, bringing together flavours and collective memory.

Finally, there will be a presentation and tasting of the Biscotto di Sant’Antonio produced by the bakeries Amici del Pane and Panificio Ambrosini Damiano & C. of San Lorenzo Nuovo. The appointment is at Teatro San Giuseppe in Piazza Fontana del Muro.
