“Stories on the Move”, along the Via Francigena in San Lorenzo Nuovo between memory and landscape

Third event in the series of excursions across the territory as part of the PNRR project Ideal Vegetal City

The “Stories on the Move” programme resumes: a series of trekking routes to discover the local area, experiential workshops, and taste‑based storytelling promoted by the Municipality of San Lorenzo Nuovo within the PNRR project Ideal Vegetal City.
The initiative is curated by the cultural association Comunità Narranti and Four Seasons Natura e Cultura, in collaboration with the Consorzio Camminatori Indipendenti, offering the opportunity to explore this area of the Alta Tuscia from new perspectives, between landscape, memory, and flavours.
Following the success of the first two events, the third is scheduled for Sunday, 12 April 2026 at 9:00 a.m., with the excursion “In the Footsteps of Pilgrims. Stories of Steps and Knowledge”: a full day along the Via Francigena, among landscapes, pilgrims’ tales, and the historical and spiritual memories of a route that has crossed centuries and Europe.

The Excursion

The itinerary begins at the point where the Via Francigena leaves the territory of Acquapendente and enters that of San Lorenzo Nuovo, opening the way to stories of travellers, merchants, and pilgrims from every era. Step by step, among abandoned farmhouses and open landscapes, the deeper meaning of these places and their transformations will emerge.
The route will continue to the border with the territory of Bolsena, whose large lake will accompany walkers throughout the journey, with the Bisentina Island—rich in millennia of history—dominating the horizon as a silent guide.

Practical Information

Meeting point: the parking area in the locality of Campo Morino.
The excursion covers 12 km, with an expected duration of 8 hours (full day) and an easy/medium difficulty level. A shuttle service is included for the return. Suitable trekking clothing for the season and a packed lunch are recommended.

Nature Workshop: Country Walking Sticks — From Wood to Path

At the end of the morning, in the public garden at the heart of the village, there will be a presentation and tasting of products from Allevamento‑Macelleria Neri and Cantina Cinque Sensi of San Lorenzo Nuovo.
The excursion will be accompanied by the travelling nature workshop “Country Walking Sticks: From Wood to Path” led by Damiano Fabbri of the Stay Freedom Association. Along the route, participants will be guided in discovering the plant species best suited for crafting walking sticks, as well as the basic techniques for working and transforming them into unique objects.
