“Stories on the Move”, a Sunday in San Lorenzo Nuovo between urban trekking and local products

Fifth event in the series of excursions across the territory within the PNRR project Ideal Vegetal City

“Stories on the Move”, the programme of trekking routes exploring the local area, experiential workshops, and taste‑based storytelling promoted by the Municipality of San Lorenzo Nuovo as part of the PNRR project Ideal Vegetal City, dedicates its fifth event precisely to the village of the Alta Tuscia, focusing on its distinctive urban layout and traditional local products.

The initiative, curated by the Cultural Association Comunità Narranti and Four Seasons Natura e Cultura, in collaboration with the Consorzio Camminatori Indipendenti, offers an opportunity to discover the local territory from new perspectives, through landscapes, memories, and flavours.

Excursion Programme

On Sunday, 26 April 2026 at 9:00 a.m., the urban trekking route “The Imagined Town. Memories and stories of a village that did not exist” will set off: a narrated walk through the streets of the village to uncover the surprising history of a settlement conceived “at the drawing board”.

Built in the 1770s as the new site of the ancient centre of San Lorenzo alle Grotte, today’s San Lorenzo Nuovo is a rare example of a purpose‑built town with a rational, Neoclassical layout. Walking among palaces, churches, streets, and geometric perspectives, participants will be guided through a collective narrative blending art and architecture, memory, and everyday life. The octagonal square, the symbolic heart of the community, will serve as the starting point to explore how an urban project gradually became a place of relationships and identity.

The itinerant narrations are curated by Marco D’Aureli, Fulvio Ricci, and Fabio Rossi. Meeting point for departure: Piazza Europa, San Lorenzo Nuovo. Estimated duration: 3 hours.

Workshop and Tasting

At the end of the walk, around 12:00 p.m., the workshop “Traditional Gnocchi” with Tina Nucci will take place, dedicated to one of the most representative agricultural products of the area: the Alto Viterbese potato. The workshop will illustrate how this tuber, grown in the fertile volcanic soils of the Tuscia, is transformed into gnocchi, a symbolic dish of the local tradition. For the occasion, a particular type of packaging will be used and presented, which—thanks to modern preservation technologies—maintains the potato’s organoleptic and gastronomic qualities intact.

The day will conclude with the presentation and tasting of the products of the CO.P.A.VIT Consortium and the EVO oil of the Daniele Cozza Farm of San Lorenzo Nuovo. The event will take place at the San Giuseppe Theatre in Piazza Fontana del Muro.
